THANKSGIVING CHALLENGE (10 pts.)

11/4/2023

Picture
1. Farmer Israel has seventeen turkeys. All but nine broke through a hole in the fence and wandered away. How many were left? (1pt.)
2. What word is spelled wrong in every dictionary? (1pt.)
3. Name ten parts of the body that spelled with three letters each. (1pt.)
4. Mo-Mo just bought a live turkey from farmer Israel for Thanksgiving dinner. He brought the turkey to show-and-tell in class and asks: "What side of the turkey has more feathers?" Can you answer that question? (1pt.)
5. How many times can you subtract 6 from 30? (1pt.)
6. While wrestling for the same book from the classroom library, Salvador and Aaron accidentally ripped off pages 6, 7, 84, 111, 112. Can you tell how many sheets were torn from the book? (2pts.)

7. Mr. Pham says, “Last week, I was 53 years old but next year I will turn 56.” How is this possible? Shouldn’t he be 54? Can you explain it? (3pts.)

ANSWERS:
1. 9 turkeys left of course! “All but nine!”
2. The word “WRONG” is spelled the same in every dictionary.
3.  rib, jaw, gum, hip, arm, lip, leg, eye, ear, and toe.
4. What side of the chicken has more feathers? “The outside!”
5. Once. After that, 6 is subtracted from 24... (gotcha!)
6. 4 sheets. 111, 112 is only one sheet.
7. Mr. Pham’s birthday is December 25, and he was talking on January 1, 2024. He’s 54 now. Last week (December 24, 2023), he was 53. His next birthday, (December 25, 2024) he will be 55, and the "next year" (December 25, 2025) he will turn 56. It's only "a year" but contains 3 birthdays. 53 + 3 = 56. 😫

ANSWER1: farmer Israel has 9 turkeys left because the phrase all but nine means all except 9
ANSWER2: The word wrong is spelled wrong in every dictionary
ANSWER3: Eye, ear, jaw, arm, toe, rib, lip, leg, hip, gum
ANSWER4: The outside of the turkey has more feathers
ANSWER5: Once because the next time you subtract 6 will be from 24 not 30
ANSWER6: 4 pages because pages 111 and 112 fall on the same page
ANSWER7: For example mr. Pham is born on Dec 31. Mr. Pham is 53 on Dec 30, 2020 and turns 54 on Dec 31, 2020. On January 1st 2021 he tells his class he will turn 56 next year which is 2022. On Dec 31st, 2021 he turns 55 and then it´s the next year 2022 and he turns 56 on Dec 31st 2022 just like he said.

1. There were nine turkeys left.
2. The word wrong is always spelled wrong in every dictionary.
3. The outside of the turkey has more feathers.
4. Here are ten body parts. Lip, hip, jaw, gum, eye, leg, toe, rib, arm, and ear.
5. You can subtract 6 from 30 one time because after that it’s no longer 30.
6. There are four sheets that Salvador and Aaron took out.
7. Mr. Pham’s birthday is on December 31. Today is January 6. Last week it was December 30. On this day Mr. Pham was still 53. The next day he turned 54. This year on December 31 Mr. Pham will turn 55.
Next year on his birthday Mr. Pham will turn 56.

Answer 1: Farmer Israel has 9 turkeys left because the phrase all but nine means all except nine

Answer 2: The word wrong is spelled wrong in every dictionary

Answer 3: Eye ear jaw arm toe rib lip leg hip gum

Answer 4: The outside of the turkey has more feathers

Answer 5: You can only subtract 6 from 30 once because the next time you subtract 6 won´t be from 30 but from 24

Answer 6: Aaron and Salvadoor rip out 4 pages because page 111 and 112 fall on the same page

Answer 7: Mr pham birthday is on Dec 31. mr pham tells his students that he was 53 lat week and will turn 56 next year and he makes this statement on Tuesday January 1, 2021. His 54 birthday was on Monday December 31, 2020 but that does´nt count because he told his students he was 53 LAST WEEK and he is right because it was before December 31 2020 (his 54 birthday). So on December 31 2020 he turned 54 and on December 31 2021 he turned 55 and then on December 31 2022 he turns 56 like he said.
