Group Earth is trying to figure out a math problem for the Academic Challenge:
In the picture, the big square has an area of 60 square inches. What is the area of the smaller square? There is a really fast and easy way to find the answer (which does not require algebra). 😁 5 points for the correct answer and another 5 points if you can show what is that fast and easy way. To answer, pick up a copy of the riddle at the Mail Station, fill out and drop it into "PhaMailbox" when done. ANSWER: 30 square inches. The easy answer: If we cut out the smaller square and turn it as shown in the picture. We can see that it is half the size of the big square, as indicated by the dotted lines. These dotted lines divide the large square into 8 triangles, and the small square into 4 triangles. WINNERS: Kalysta (10), Hadiqa (9), Alvaris (5), Aaron (1), Olivia (1)
