February 23, 2024 - Our class had a fun time learning about chemical reactions in this film-canister experiment. We added water to Alka Seltzer, which contains citric acid & sodium bicarbonate. This set off a chemical reaction creating sodium citrate and releasing carbon dioxide in the form of bubbles. The carbon dioxide gas built up and expanded in the enclosed space, causing the film-canister to launch high into the air with a loud "pop" sound.
